Get Seen by the Robots · Chapter 4 of 12
Why does business entity consistency matter to AI?
Machines don't recognise businesses, they recognise entities — a bundle of facts that keep matching each other. When your name, address, phone and services agree everywhere, you exist. When they don't, you're a rumour, and assistants quietly recommend somebody more consistent instead.
Section 01
The least glamorous chapter and the highest return
SOCi reported business profile accuracy on AI platforms sitting at about 68% in 2026, which means roughly a third of what the machines "know" about the average business is wrong. Free to fix. Just tedious.
Section 02
Monday's job list
- Pick your one true name. Exactly what's on your signage and your invoices. Not "Dave's Plumbing — Emergency Plumber Leeds 24/7". Keyword-stuffed names get you flagged as untrustworthy, which is the opposite of the plan.
- Complete your Google Business Profile properly. Every service, every category, real photos taken this year, opening hours including bank holidays, and a post at least monthly. Google's AI surfaces read this as authoritative data, and stale profiles fade.
- Claim Bing Places. Yes, Bing. ChatGPT and Copilot draw heavily on Bing's index, which is why Bing Webmaster Tools verification matters more than its market share suggests (Bing Webmaster Tools guidance). Ignoring Bing to spite Microsoft costs you the biggest assistant in the world.
- Then Yelp, Apple Business Connect, Foursquare, your trade body, your chamber of commerce. Boring? Extremely. But Yelp data is licensed into ChatGPT and Perplexity, so it's not optional any more.
- Write one "About" page that reads like a fact sheet. Founded, founders, locations, service areas, what you do, what you don't, accreditations, price ranges. This becomes the page everything else gets checked against.
Section 03
The classic own-goal
A business rebrands, updates the website, and forgets eleven directory listings from 2017. Now half the internet says one thing and half says another, so assistants recommend the competitor whose story is boring and consistent. Boring and consistent wins. Put that on a mug.

Find out what AI says about you. It takes 60 seconds and I don't call you.
Your score across the major engines, whether you're blocking the crawlers, and the three things costing you the most — on screen before you've finished your coffee. If it comes back healthy I'll tell you to spend your money elsewhere.
