UK · AI COMPLIANCE-READY · FOR SMES

AI search visibility, built on a compliance-ready foundation.

⚠ Two deadlines on the horizon

From 2 August 2026, EU AI Act Article 50 requires UK businesses with EU customers to tell users when they are talking to a chatbot. From 2 December 2026, AI-generated content needs to be labelled. Most UK SME websites are not structured for either. AEO-REX® fixes that, alongside the work your solicitor and DPO already do.

THE COMPLIANCE TIMELINE · ALL FOUR DATES
In force · 2 Feb 2025
Article 4 AI literacy obligations apply to any company using AI tools, including SMEs.
From · 2 Aug 2026
Article 50 transparency obligations for chatbots take effect across the EU.
From · 2 Dec 2026
AI-generated content must be labelled, following the EU Omnibus deal of May 2026.

WHAT COMPLIANCE-READY ACTUALLY MEANS

Four structural layers that sit underneath your legal team's work.

None of these replace a solicitor or a DPO. All of them make your solicitor's job easier and your AI search visibility stronger at the same time.

01 · DISCLOSURE

AI disclosure markup.

If your site uses a chatbot, AI assistant or AI-generated content, we add the schema and on-page labelling that Article 50 transparency obligations rely on, in a form AI engines also read.

02 · PROVENANCE

Authorship and provenance.

Person, Organization and Article schema with verified author credentials and content provenance metadata. AI engines reward it for citations. Regulators read it for trust.

03 · DATA

GDPR-safe structured data.

We check that nothing in your JSON-LD, sitemaps or exposed metadata leaks personal data, customer names or internal contact details. A common, quiet UK SME mistake.

04 · TRUST

Citation-ready trust signals.

Companies House number, ICO registration, trademark status, professional memberships, sameAs links. The scaffold AI engines need to cite you in regulated contexts with confidence.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU WAIT

The deadlines arrive whether your website is ready or not.

This is not a fine-or-no-fine question for most UK SMEs. It is a "how expensive does this get later" question, and a "what will my enterprise customers ask me" question. Both have honest, numerical answers.

1

The work gets more expensive after the deadlines hit.

Right now, structural compliance work on an SME website is a 7-day, £247 to £797 engagement. After 2 August 2026 and 2 December 2026, demand will spike and so will prices.

£2,000 to £25,000 Typical 2026 UK agency quotes for retrofit "AI visibility audits" once demand spikes

Based on AEO-REX pricing research published on our homepage pricing section, drawing from Whitehat SEO, Red Eagle Tech, Polaris Agency and Limelight Digital 2026 industry reports.

2

Your next enterprise client will ask before they sign.

If your customers include companies of 50+ employees, expect a procurement question by Q4 2026 asking how your AI use is disclosed, where your training data comes from, and whether your website meets Article 50 transparency standards. Enterprises have to ask, because their own compliance depends on it.

Get the answer ready now. Tell them: yes, mapped, documented, on file. The contract closes faster. You charge more. They never query you again.

3

Your AI search visibility erodes month by month.

Every month your site is unstructured for AI search, you lose buyers who get recommended to competitors with cleaner schema and trust signals.

~£10,500 / month Average revenue UK SMEs with a score under 40 lose to better-optimised competitors

Source: AEO-REX 2026 Benchmark. Based on 8,500 monthly searches × 12% AI search rate × 8% purchase intent × 85% miss rate.

4

Retrofit work is materially harder than building it right.

Adding schema and disclosure markup during a planned engagement takes hours. Retrofitting it after a regulator query, a client demand, or a botched DIY attempt takes days, often by a different developer at premium rates, with archaeology fees to undo previous work.

The 7-day window we offer at £247 to £797 only exists because we are doing it before the rush. After August 2026, the calendar fills up.

WHAT THIS PAGE IS, AND ISN'T

I'd rather lose the sale than blur this line.

Too many UK SMEs have been sold "compliance" by people who could not be the ones holding the bag if a regulator turned up. Here is exactly what AEO-REX® does, and where the line sits.

I am not a lawyer, a DPO or a regulated compliance advisor.

I am a UK Answer Engine Optimisation consultant. If you need a binding legal opinion, I will point you to a regulated solicitor I trust.

I do not certify your business as EU AI Act or GDPR compliant.

Compliance is a status only qualified, regulated professionals can confirm. AEO-REX® work supports their assessment. It does not replace it.

I do not write your privacy policy or your terms of service.

Those documents need a solicitor's eye. I will tell you what your website's structure suggests should be in them, and your solicitor will draft the binding text.

I do structure your website so AI engines and regulators read it the same way: clearly.

Schema markup, authorship signals, content provenance, AI disclosure labels, trust scaffolding. The structural layer that supports every piece of legal work above it.

I do work directly with your solicitor or DPO if you have one.

You forward their notes, I structure the site to match. No fighting, no overlap. Two professions doing the work they are each qualified for.

Important

AEO-REX® provides website structuring, schema markup and AI search optimisation services. We are not a law firm, regulated advisor or qualified data protection officer. Our work supports your existing legal, UK GDPR and EU AI Act compliance efforts but does not constitute legal advice or a guarantee of regulatory compliance. For binding compliance assessments, consult a qualified solicitor or your appointed data protection officer.

HOW IT SLOTS INTO YOUR EXISTING AEO-REX WORK

The Compliance work is a sibling, not a replacement.

Most clients pair it with the AI Visibility Audit, because AI engines reward the same trust signals regulators look for. One workstream, two outcomes.

Free AGENTREX scan

Checks whether AI agents can actually use your website to act on your customer's behalf. Run it free at agentrex.aeo-rex.com.

AI Visibility Audit

Tells you whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude name your business when customers ask. See pricing on the homepage.

AI Compliance Audit · £247

The new entry point. Personal review of whether your website is structured to support EU AI Act Article 50 transparency and UK GDPR principles.

AI Compliance Fix · £697

We implement every gap the Audit found. Schema, labels, trust scaffolding. Payment plans available.

Audit + Fix Bundle · £797

Both, together, saves £147. Most clients choose this.

Maintenance

Rolling monthly review as AI engine signals, ICO guidance and EU AI Act guidelines continue to evolve through 2026 and 2027.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The questions UK SMEs actually ask before booking.

Does the AI Compliance Audit make my business legally compliant with the EU AI Act or UK GDPR?

No. Legal compliance is a status only a qualified solicitor, data protection officer or accredited compliance professional can deliver. The AI Compliance Audit is a structural review of your website that supports the compliance work your legal team already does. It is not a substitute for legal advice.

Does the EU AI Act apply to my UK SME?

It applies if you place AI systems on the EU market, serve EU customers using an AI system or deploy AI in regulated contexts such as recruitment or credit scoring. The most common touchpoint for UK SMEs is Article 50, which from 2 August 2026 requires that users be told when they are interacting with a chatbot.

If you serve only UK customers and do not deploy AI, your obligations sit primarily under UK GDPR and ICO guidance. We recommend confirming applicability with a solicitor.

When do the key EU AI Act deadlines hit?

Article 4 AI literacy obligations have been in force since 2 February 2025 and apply to any organisation using AI tools.

Article 50 chatbot transparency obligations take effect on 2 August 2026.

AI-generated content labelling obligations take effect on 2 December 2026 following the EU Omnibus deal of May 2026.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. The AI Compliance Fix at £697 and the Bundle at £797 can be paid one-off or spread across three or six monthly instalments. Instalment plans are interest-free with no surcharge. The total you pay is the same as the one-off price.

The Audit at £247 is a one-off payment only.

Recurring payments are taken automatically by card via Stripe. If a payment fails, work is paused until the balance clears. There are no late payment fees.

How much does the AI Compliance Audit cost?

The AI Compliance Audit costs £247 as a one-off fee, personally reviewed and delivered in 7 working days. The AI Compliance Fix costs £697, one-off or in interest-free instalments. The Audit + Fix Bundle costs £797 (saving £147) and supports instalment plans.

Who delivers the AI Compliance Audit?

All AEO-REX® audits and fixes are personally delivered by Shanaz Begum, founder of AEO-REX® and a UK Answer Engine Optimisation specialist. Credentials include Saïd Business School at Oxford, Islam Channel, Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce and a UK Registered Trademark with UKIPO. Nothing is outsourced.

How is this different from the AI Visibility Audit?

The AI Visibility Audit checks whether AI engines name your business when customers ask for a recommendation. The AI Compliance Audit checks whether your website is structured to support the transparency, provenance and trust signals that the EU AI Act, UK GDPR and AI engines all reward. They are complementary, and many clients book both.

Will the work go out of date before the deadlines actually bite?

Unlikely. Schema markup is forward-compatible, and the structural principles behind Article 50 and ICO guidance have been stable through several drafts. If the Commission's final guidelines change anything material between now and August 2026, Maintenance clients get the update at no extra cost.
